An end to war and the establishment of peace between nations

Posted on Sep 8th, 2007 by Curtis : Systems Genius Curtis
OK. Here goes. My first ever blog entry and I am going to start off with something small....my solution to war.

I have an idea that I am absolutely convinced will mean an end to war between nations, if I could just prove it.

I have enough experience, training and intuition to know that this will work, and what I need to prove it is the assistance of someone with experience in economics research.

OK. So, here is my idea.

First the beliefs upon which this idea is founded.

1. The economies of the world are tightly interwoven and interdependent.
2. Most, if not all, businesses seek to earn a profit and the more the better.
3. Businesses operating in places with well functioning infrastructures are more efficient and thus more profitable.
4. War destroys infrastructure - human lives, buildings, highways, communications, etc.

I believe that it is possible to show using economic research and econometrics that the costs incurred due to war are borne by all busiesses throughout the world, no matter where that war occured. The deleterious effects may be delayed, but nonetheless certain.

Furthermore, the costs are much, much larger than has been understood. One single human life that is extinguished, or simply deeply traumatized by war, means that that person can no longer contribute fully their creative potential. You may think that we will never know how much is lost, in economic terms, by the destruction of a human life, but I assert that it can be calculated.

There are many costs that have huge impacts on the economies not only of the localites directly impacted by war, but on the economies of every nation on Earth and therefore on the revenues of business.

I believe that if I can get some assistance from some people with experience in conducting economic research and in running economic models that we can produce a document, perhaps a book, and use this information to influence the thinking of the most influential leaders of the most powerful businesses in the world.

If the leaders of the most powerful companies in the world understand the costs that will be felt by their own company, I believe that they will put the pressure on the governments of the world to work out their differences in ways that do not cause destruction of lives nor property.

By ending war between nations, the funds that were previously channeled into the military can be channeled into research and development, further increasing the revenues of businesses, improving transportation, communications, education, and health care.

You may ask - what about terrorism?

If the nations of the world no longer have to worry about wars between nations and the businesses of the world put pressure on the governments of the world to cooperate and if the standard of living improves for everyone everywhere, I believe that solutions will be found to put an end to terrorism. Also, I believe that a great many of those who are recruited by the terrorists feel a sense of desperation with their lives. I believe that a world of peace and prosperity will greatly decrease the likelihood of people feeling desperate.

Anyways, if there is anyone who has any ideas on how I can get some help to prove this, please, let me know.

Thanks,
Curtis

Dear Curtis,

Thank you for the very well written and thought provoking article. I think your idea is very solid. I think you're on track posting a blog article about it. Perhaps you could start groups on other social networks and through the power of networking you will find the contacts needed to turn this seed of a beautiful ide into an action that takes root (there I go with my metaphors again!).

My mother used to say, if we all just had one friend in each country there would be no wars because we'd all be too concerned for the wellfare and safety of our friend. Your idea is similar and while difficult to initiate, not impossible. Just look at what Ghandi was able to accomplish with virtually zero tools.

You go Curtis!
